Our news

A breath of fresh air in the fabulous essex countryside

There are exciting times ahead for Basildon as the town is set to receive an enormous facelift, including the regeneration of East Square into a fantastic new entertainment complex, along with changes to the town’s transport hub and addition of a new South Essex college campus. But the appeal of living in Basildon is not just the redevelopment of the town centre. Local residents in the area love the mix of urban living alongside access to the breath-taking Essex countryside. Here are just some of the beautiful open spaces and leisure facilities you can enjoy when you’re based in Basildon or the surrounding area. This is active living at its best!

Wat tyler country park

This countryside adventure park is situated just off the A13 and is a marvellous opportunity to spend time in the great outdoors! Your day will start in the Village Green, a wide-open space in the heart of the park which is surrounded by thatched cottages. Bag a table and enjoy a picnic before you begin an afternoon of trail walking across a number of paths that traverse this 125-acre expanse of land. If you have a young family, then you’ll love the buggy trails and kids adventure park. The green also includes a bouncy castle during the summer. Birdwatching at Vange Marsh, and of course a visit to the café and shop top off the perfect day out in Basildon’s most popular open space!

Barleylands farm park and craft village

This farm park is the ideal day out for the family, where visitors can see everything from baby lambs to nocturnal creatures such as fruit bats or hedgehogs. But once you’ve seen your fill of cute animals, you can extend your stay by pitching up a tent outside where camping is offered on this grass level site, with access to a farm shop 7 days a week. What a great way to get back to nature!

Lake meadows, billericay

Just a short 15-minute drive away, Basildon residents won’t mind the journey when they can wander around the 40 acres of parkland at Lake Meadows. The site also boasts a fishing lake, formal gardens, bowling green, tennis courts, petanque terrain and a swimming pool! The young at heart will also love the novelty golf course before grabbing an ice cream from the café!

Gloucester park

This park is located more centrally in the town centre, which makes it a pleasant escape from the hubbub of activity during a lunch hour or trip around the shops. The park has excellent sporting facilities including an athletics stadium, astroturf pitch, football pitch, cricket pitch and courts for tennis and netball. There is also a bowling green onsite.

Residents of Basildon will agree that it’s impossible to be bored when you live in this fantastic area. The town centre may be undergoing an incredible transformation, but the charm of rural Essex will never change, which is what makes this area so inviting.
