Head to the county town of essex for an active lifestyle

Chelmsford has been the county town of Essex since 1215 and has enjoyed city status since 2012. As a thriving cosmopolitan town, it attracts local Essex residents and commuters who enjoy the breadth of activities the area has to offer, whilst benefitting from an easy journey into London for work. As far as leisure and sport goes, Chelmsford has it all. Whether you’re already a seasoned sports fanatic, or are looking to take up a new pursuit, Chelmsford is the right place to move to if you’re looking to indulge your active side. Here are some of the top sports activities and facilities in the area.

Ice skating

The Chelmsford Riverside Ice and Leisure Centre is located on Victoria Road and is home to the area’s Chelmsford Chieftains ice hockey team. Members of the public can also have fun gliding or stumbling around the rink, at the many public skate sessions that are in the venue’s timetable. Parent and child sessions are available too, and you can hire both skates and penguin skating aids for the little ones to hold onto. Teenagers won’t be disappointed either, as they can showcase their moves at a skating disco!

Athletics

Chelmsford Sport and Athletics Centre (CSAC) is located at Melbourne Park and includes both an indoor and outdoor track. Various multi skills clubs begin from the age of 4, with a junior academy running from age 9 to 11 during term time. Youth and adult elite athletes couldn’t ask for a better training ground, benefitting from an 8-lane, 400 metre track, alongside facilities for field events. Inside there are practice areas for long jump, high jump, triple jump, pole vault, and 60 metre sprints.

Cricket

Whether you prefer to enjoy cricket as a fan or by heading out to bat, the Essex County Cricket Ground will certainly be a draw if you’re moving to Chelmsford. Tickets are available online for all major matches, and you can also bag a spot at the club’s charity tribute nights. If you’re looking to pick up some new merchandise, then head to the ground’s shop for a wide selection of kit.

Trampolining

Jump Street Chelmsford is the latest addition to the trampolining market, offering hours of fun for adults and youngsters alike. If you’re out there to have a giggle with your mates, it’s the perfect venue to keep fit. Those looking for some serious trampolining tuition can also take advantage of the packed schedule of classes at the Riverside Ice and Leisure Centre. The Chelmsford Trampolining Club runs sessions here and aims to get people jumping to the standard where they’re able to compete!

These are just a small selection of the types of activities you can enjoy if you move to the Chelmsford area. The district is also filled with gyms, running clubs, football clubs and many other sporting activities.
