Why Upminster is the perfect commuter town

Why Upminster is the perfect commuter town - BalgoresOur news

Charming location offering quick connections into London

Learn how easy it is to travel into the capital using one of Upminster’s many transport connections.

Londoners who are looking for more space and a quieter way of life often find themselves at the end of the District line looking around Upminster. This town on the borders of Essex has long attracted families and young professionals who are impressed by the charm of this semi-rural area which still offers a quick commute to work. Upminster has a variety of transport options to suit residents using public transport along with people who would prefer to drive into work.

The district line

Upminster is located in Zone 6 of London’s Travelcard system and a season ticket here would cost commuters based here £2,568 for the year, £246.60 for a monthly pass or £64.20 for a 7-day ticket. The cost of a travelcard reduces if you don’t need to go as far into London as Zone 1. For those that do, Upminster has a station on the District line of the tube, meaning that commuters can start their day by getting a seat during rush hour! The District line has been serving Upminster since 1902 and provides quick journeys into the capital, reaching Victoria station in 58 minutes, or Monument in 45 minutes for those who are based in the City.

National rail

Upminster is lucky enough to also have excellent rail connections. The c2c service operates six trains per hour from Upminster into Fenchurch Street and a rapid journey time of just 24 minutes. Season ticket costs are the same as those for London Underground and these trains originate from Southend which is the perfect weekend getaway with the family.  Upminster is also only 11 minutes from Romford on the Overground, which will soon offer incredibly fast connections across London with the introduction of the Elizabeth line. A journey time of just 35 minutes is promised between Romford and Bond Street, or 27 minutes to Liverpool Street. If you live nearer to Emerson Park, there is also an Overground station located there which connects to Romford.

Local buses

A number of buses serve the Upminster area, with routes such as the 248, 346, 347, 370, 646, 648 and 642 offering connections to the neighbouring towns of Cranham, Harold Wood, South Ockendon, Romford and Hornchurch.

Road connections

For drivers, the location of Upminster is ideal as it sits next to Junction 29 of the M25 providing excellent access around the entire perimeter of London depending on where you need to commute to. You can also drive into one of the local airports at London City or Stansted if your work takes you overseas. Both can be reached in under 40 minutes by car.

Of course, not everyone living in the Upminster area will need to commute far to get to work. If you’re lucky enough to work in the surrounding local area, then you can also benefit from living a little further away from Upminster’s stations, where property is more affordable. Housing on the Upminster Park Estate is a good option for people who don’t need to be tied to a particular station.
